Meet Heidi

CRSOK is changing lives

Heidi moved here from New Orleans, La, and needed medication and treatment. She searched on Google and found Counseling & Recovery Services. It saved her life.

Heidi said clients who need immediate assistance with medicine and treatment wait days or weeks for an appointment because funds aren’t available for more staff.

“Without my medicine, I can melt down in two days,” Heidi said. “Without help, people end up dead or in jail. More funding is definitely needed.”

Heidi had a childhood filled with trauma from her mother’s emotional abuse and her stepfather who molested her and beat her daily. Heidi ran away twice at age 14. At 15, she ran away again to a hospital where she stayed for a year and a half until being released to live in a group home.

The pain and emotional damage from her childhood stuck with her into adulthood. She knew something was wrong for a long time before getting a diagnosis at 35.

Heidi’s diagnosis includes Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, bipolar disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, severe depression and anxiety, mood disorder and borderline personality disorder.

With her medication and treatment, Heidi overcomes symptoms of these illnesses, works part-time and enjoys life. Now, she wants to encourage others to seek treatment and to advocate for more funding, so help is available here when it is needed.
